Wealdstone 2-1 Slough Town
Wealdstone rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 victory over Slough Town at Grosvenor Vale, setting up nicely for the start of the National League season next weekend.
The Stones looked sharp early on, dominating possession and creating chances. Woodman opened the scoring with a trademark header from a corner, before debutant Nathan Tshikuna announced himself in style – latching onto a clever Georgiou pass and calmly slotting home to make it 2-0 before the break.
Slough rarely troubled the home defence, but when they did, Dante Baptiste was in top form, denying Jared Myers with a smart save. The visitors pulled one back in spectacular fashion late on when Jaiden Drakes-Thomas lobbed the trialist keeper from his own half, giving Stones fans a nervy finish.
Trialists and wholesale second-half changes disrupted the rhythm, with a missed penalty preventing a wider margin of victory, but overall Sam Cox’s men showed plenty of positives. Baptiste impressed again in goal, Mussa controlled the midfield with “sprinklings of stardust,” and Georgiou caused constant problems down the flank.
Boss Sam Cox was upbeat post-match:
“It served its purpose – some great attacking play, lots of chances created. The boys are progressing well. We’re not quite at full strength yet but we’ve built a good identity and today showed what we can do.”
With pre-season done, Stones now turn their attention to next Saturday’s National League opener at home to Truro City. The signs are encouraging – organised, competitive, and with a couple more signings, they’ll be ready to make their mark this season.
