Wealdstone FC’s season will kick off in little under two weeks time with a mouth-watering feast of football to navigate – and all whilst England still contest the European Championships in France… or not.
Saturday 2 July sees the curtain draw open on another new dawn at The Vale as chairman-less Wealdstone take on QPR 21s. With an announcement concerning Wealdstone’s new stewardship believed to be “imminent”, the new man (or woman) will almost certainly be in the stand for the first time come Rangers visit.
There’s plenty of reasons to be cheerful too. Despite the release of an exodus of players including Scott Davies, Jefferson Louis and Shaun Lucien coupled with the unwanted departure of last season’s player of the year, Bradley Hudson-Odoi, Stones have bolstered well. Former Torquay United striker Elliot Benyon joins from relegated close neighbours Hayes & Yeading whilst elsewhere on the field there has been shrewd and proven acquisitions in the captures of David Hunt, Danny Green (both Margate), Ricky Wellard (Hemel) and Eddie Oshodi (St Albans City).
And you can see some, if not all, kick off life in a Stones shirt come 2 July.
